EDITING SERVICES

I am proficient with the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS),
but I can use any preferred in-house style guide.
Proofreading is to be done after copyediting and once the manuscript has been formatted for publication. Only egregious errors are corrected at this stage in addition to typographical or layout errors.
Copyediting can be light, medium, or heavy.
A light copyedit includes mechanical editing—spelling, capitalization, hyphenation, abbreviations, punctuation, formatting of lists, etc. The table of contents, bibliographies, endnotes, footnotes, in-text citations, and numberings are also checked. Problematic passages will be pointed out, but will not be revised.
A medium edit includes a light edit in addition to suggesting types of revisions for problematic passages, checking for parallelism, rewriting confusing sentences, and editing for biased language or jargon.
A heavy edit includes a light and medium edit in addition to ensuring there is consistent tone and style throughout the text, rearranging sentences to improve readability, and paring down overly wordy text. Problematic passages are rewritten.
All significant changes are made with queries to the author for approval. All edits are made with track changes on.
Developmental editing services will be coming soon.
Once developmental editing services are available, I will be happy to provide both copyediting and developmental editing to one manuscript.
I will not copyedit and proofread the same manuscript. It is always best to have multiple eyes on your manuscript for editing.
